This week I have been working with Josie. She is still not finished with the 2009-2010 school year. This is scary since she will be starting the 2010-2011 school year in a couple of weeks. When, you ask, will she have a summer vacation. She and Katie have had many weeks and days of vacation throughout the year. So, there will be no summer vacation!

We should be through with everything by Monday...pray that all goes as planned!!

Cusco & Machu Picchu, Peru

Serving the Lord on the foreign field gives a missionary many awesome opportunities. One such opportunity is to see the world. This past weekend, we had the opportunity to visit the city of Cusco and Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is a site of Incan indian ruins. It is also known as the "Lost City of the Incans."

The Incan city was constructed 1450. It is believed that the Spaniards never discovered the Incan city. Some believe that most of the inhabitants died of smallpox and those that survived left the city in 1572.

The ruins were known to locals but was not brought to the world's attention until discovered in 1911 by an American historian.
The city is nestled 7,970 feet above sea level in the Andes mountains. It is a beautiful site.

Knowing that the God who created these massive mountains wants to fellowship with us is such a humbling thought. What is sad is to see the people sitting on the side of these mountains worshipping creation rather than the creator.

Rodney's First Spanish Message

Rodney preached his first message in Spanish on Sunday night, July 4th. He preached at Iglesia Bautista Getsemani. He preached on what Jesus saw in the cup in the Garden of Getsemani. What could He have seen that would cause Him to say "let this cup pass from me"? It wasn't the suffering because He already knew suffering. It wasn't the rejection because He already knew rejection. It was sin because He knew no sin. It was a good message, and the pastor's wife, who is a Spanish language school teacher, said he only made a few small errors. What an awesome thing to see Rodney preaching in Spanish!!

Family Comes to Visit

My sister Nina, her husband Jay, and my nephew Clay came to visit us for a week in July. After not seeing them for 10 months, it was awesome to spend some time with them. It was so much fun showing them the city of Arequipa and the ministry here. They were able to visit the children's home while they were here. Josie & Clay played soccer with the younger kids, and Rodney & Jay played volleyball with the older kids. They had a lot of fun. We introduced them to some of the local foods...rocoto relleno, lomo saltado, and aji de gallina. Clay was brave enough to try some cuy, the delicacy of guinea pig. He liked it pretty good. It was a real blessing to be with them as they experienced the foreign mission field for the first time.
