We are Rodney, Faye, Katie & Josie. This blog is a journal view of our experiences as independent Baptist missionaries in South America. We were in Arequipa, Peru in 2009-2010 to learn Spanish. We will be very shortly leaving to establish an independent Baptist church in Merida, Venezuela.

Opportunities
We bought our VW van at the end of December last year. Since then, it has been in and out of the mechanics shop for big problems (the motor) & little problems (new brakes). These trips to the mechanics shop has given us the opportunity to get to know the mechanic pretty well. Today, we went to pick the van up after it had been there for 9 days to have the brakes replaced. The people here are never in a hurry; so a 3 day job turns in to 9 days!! Very aggravating to say the least...but...today, the mechanic began to ask some very pointed questions about what "religion" we are. We had the opportunity to share the Gospel with him and to explain that we as "Baptists" believe only the Bible. He of course asked questions about Catholics, but also asked about Mormons and Penecostals. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will work in his heart over the next few day.
